Gakushuin

The Gakushuin or "Peers School" as it was called was the school where the children of the wealthy and the Japanese aristocracy attended. Members of the Imperial household had also attended the school. Mishima attended the Peers School from 1931 to 1944. It was while he was at at this institution that he probably first came in contact with members of the Japanese aristocracy and came to observe the subtle details of their way of life that he later wrote about so accurately in his later novels.
